GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Storm earn home win over Mariners

The Squalicum girls’ basketball team earned a 50-37 nonconference victory Thursday, Dec. 10, at home over Sehome.

Chalae Wolters led the Storm with 15 points, Josie Andert had 13 and Des’ree Henry had nine points on three 3-pointers.

Squalicum coach Vic Wolffis said his team is improving.

“I’d say tonight was a real bright spot for us. This was the most consistent game this season,” Wolffis said in a phone interview. “I think we shot the ball better.”

Madison Ulrich had nine points for Sehome with three 3-pointers.

Lynden 73, Ferndale 38: In a game with 45 combined fouls and 58 free throws, Lynden prevailed over Ferndale in nonconference play. Elisa Kooiman scored 18 points as one of three double-digit Lions’ scorers. Peyton Humbert led Ferndale with 10 points.

The girls were very humbled by a beatdown from Anacortes. They came out not just to win but to play well.
