BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Storm opens season with win over Bellingham
Josiah Westbrook and Damek Mitchell each scored 20 points to lead Squalicum to a 78-68 non-conference win over Bellingham on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Bellingham High School.
Westbrook scored his 1,000th point during the win.
“Westbrook hit some incredible shots,” Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. “Giving up 27 points in the first quarter was kind of a shell shocker, but once we settled in we started to compete.”
Bellingham trailed 27-14 after the first quarter, but Kyle Hofstetter’s 21 points helped keep the Red Raiders in the game. Bellingham’s Jonny Larson added 15 points in the loss.

I was really proud of the kids. They played really hard, and their heads were spinning a lot. A little too much thinking, but they worked hard and pressured the ball really well.
