It seemed like there was a lid on the basket in the first half of Lynden’s game
What started out as a glacial pace to the game ended with a Lynden victory as the host Lions earned a 49-35 Northwest Conference win over visiting Mount Baker Tuesday.
Neither team scored more than 10 points in the first quarter, and the Mountaineers followed their 8-point first quarter with a 4-point second.
“It seemed like there was a rebounding ring on the basket in the first half,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said.
In the second half, Lynden’s offense turned back on thanks to junior Christian Zamora, who finished with a game-high 14 points.
Mount Baker’s Carter Backstrom recorded a team-high nine points.
Boys’ results
Meridian 70, Squalicum 58 – Meridian shot 9-12 from the 3-point line to help run away with a Northwest Conference win over the host Storm. The Trojans also knocked down 13-17 free-throws in the fourth quarter to help seal the game. Jackson Short scored a team-high 20 points for Meridian. Kendall Engelhart recorded the game-high of 22 points for Squalicum.
Lynden Christian 62, Bellingham 58 – Lynden Christian outscored host Bellingham by 20 points in the fourth quarter to come back and earn a Northwest conference win. Andrew DeVries scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth to bring his team back. Bellingham’s Spencer Lee tallied a team-high 21 points.
Nooksack Valley 57, Sedro-Woolley 55 – The host Pioneers earned a Northwest Conference victory over the visiting Cubs.
Girls’ results
Lynden Christian 63, Bellingham 23 – The host Lyncs jumped out to a 28-5 lead in the first quarter to help earn a Northwest Conference win over the Red Raiders. Lynden’s Riley Dykstra led all scorers with 15 points and was aggressive getting to the basket, according to Lynden coach Brady Bomber.
Nooksack Valley 53, Sedro-Woolley 35 – Nooksack valley’s Kora Larsen scored a team-high 15 points to help the visiting Pioneers earn a Northwest Conference win over the host Cubs.
Lynden 65, Mount Baker 42 – The visiting Lions earned a Northwest Conference victory over the host Mountaineers.
