This Lynden freshman helped stop Lakewood’s star senior guard

The host Lynden Lions girls basketball team earned a 64-20 Northwest Conference win over the visiting Lakewood Cougars Friday night.

Freshman Anna VanderYacht had the tough task of guarding Lakewood senior Jelly Perry, but Lynden coach Rob Adams said she handled the role extremely well.

“She spearheaded guarding Perry tonight,” Adams said. “Every time she (VanderYacht) came in the game, our defense turned it up a notch.”

Blakely Doerge had a team-high 18 points for the Lions, and Natalie Amos added 16.
