These three Ferndale girls basketball players supplied the offense against Meridian
Three Ferndale girls basketball players scored in double figures as the host Golden Eagles knocked off Meridian for a 61-57 Northwest Conference win Thursday night.
Jamie Johnson (17), Rylee Weg (14) and Carmelita Rodriguez (12) were the catalysts behind Ferndale’s attack. Rodriguez played all but two minutes of the game and defended Meridian’s Ellesse Fitzgerald, holding her to 12 points.
“She (Rodriguez) had a nice floor game for us,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said.
Johnson hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter to give Ferndale (12-5 overall, 8-2) a 7-point lead.
The Trojans (14-3 overall, 8-2) were led by Kyrin Baklund who had 24 points.

Burlington-Edison 59, Nooksack Valley 57 – The host Pioneers lost a Northwest Conference game to the visiting Tigers.
Ferndale 60, Meridian 52 – Ferndale went to a trapping, zone defense in the second half and pushed its lead out to 20 by the fourth quarter in a Northwest Conference win over visiting Meridian. Sequoyah Julius led all players with 18 points, and senior point guard AJ Rankin added 12. Meridian’s Warren Utschinski had a team-high 12 points.
Anacortes 61, Mount Baker 40 – The host Mountaineers lost a Northwest Conference game to the visiting Seahawks.
Lynden Christian 71, Blaine 43: Despite a strong defensive effort by the Borderitres, the top-ranked Lyncs got 20 points from Cole Bajema in the NWC victory. Cole Langstraat (13) and Jordan Riddle (12) also reached double figures to help LC stay unbeated, while Adam Vega led Blaine with 11 and Ben Wallen finished with eight.

Mount Baker 55, Anacortes 51 – The visiting Mountaineers earned a Northwest Conference victory over the host Seahawks.
Burlington-Edison 59, Nooksack Valley 47 – Jenna Tenkley’s team-high 16 points weren’t enough as the visiting Pioneers lost a Northwest Conference game. Burlington-Edison (12-5 overall, 9-1) was led by Allyson Ray with 16 points, but also had contributions from Katie King and Afton Field with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Lynden Christian 69, Blaine 18 – The host Lyncs earned a Northwest Conference win over the visiting Borderites.
