Would the Lynden Christian boys basketball team remain undefeated Monday night?
The Lynden Christian boys basketball team remained unbeaten Monday as the Lyncs earned a 69-59 Northwest Conference win over host Sedro-Woolley.
Cole Bajema poured in a game-high 31 points and snagged 10 rebounds to lead Lynden Christian to victory. Bajema scored 21 of his 31 in the second half, and 14 in the fourth quarter.
“It was a grinder of a night,” Lynden Christian coach Roger DeBoer said. “We battled back in the second half and Cole was a big part of that.”
Sedro-Woolley jumped out to a 21-11 lead in the second quarter before the Lyncs took a 1-point lead into halftime. Lynden Christian turned up its offense in the second half, and at one point led the Cubs by 16.
Boys’ results
Ferndale 65, Nooksack Valley 57 – AJ Rankin scored a team-high 19 points to help the visiting Golden Eagles earn a Northwest Conference win. Rankin shot a blistering 6 for 7 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from the free-throw line. Nooksack Valley’s Casey Bauman had a game-high 28 points.
Mount Baker 67, Meridian 56 – The host Mountaineers earned a Northwest Conference win over the visiting Trojans. David Vetkov had a team-high 15 points, and Ethan Gates added 14. Meridian’s Jackson Short poured in a game-high 20 points.
Girls’ results
Meridian 57, Mount Baker 54 – Host Meridian capitalized on second-chance points and Mountaineer turnovers to help earn a Northwest Conference win. Kyrin Baklund led the Trojans with 15 points, and Ellesse FitzGerald and Jolee Sipma both scored in double figures. Mount Baker played without starting point guard Haylee Malone, who suffered an ankle injury in the Mountaineers’ game against Nooksack Valley Friday.
Lynden Christian 68, Sedro-Woolley 36 – After being tested in the first half, the host Lyncs picked up their defensive intensity in the second half to earn a Northwest Conference win. Lynden Christian coach Brady Bomber said the defense of Riley VanHulzen and Riley Dykstra was especially key in holding off the Cubs.
Ferndale 52, Nooksack Valley 45 – The host Golden Eagles earned a Northwest Conference win over the visiting Pioneers. Rylee Weg recorded a team-high 13 points as Ferndale improved to 11-5 overall, and 7-2 in league play. Nooksack Valley’s Jenna Tenkley had a game-high 15 points.
