Would Sehome hold its composure in the second half against Blaine’s comeback?

Eddy Hochsprung led the visiting Mariners with 16 points as Sehome earned a 61-49 Northwest Conference win over the host Borderites Friday night.

Sehome had a 33-17 lead at halftime which it built on in the third quarter before Blaine started its comeback in the fourth quarter. Sehome coach Steve Call said it was good to see the Mariners get a team win.

“We held our composure in the second half,” Call said. “They played us tough.”

Blaine’s Adam Vega led all scorers with 17 points.

Boys’ results

Nooksack Valley 49, Mount Baker 46 – The visiting Pioneers earned a Northwest Conference win over the host Mountaineers. No other information was available at press time.

Girls’ results

Nooksack Valley 43, Mount Baker 29 – Visiting Nooksack Valley blanked the Mountaineers in the first quarter and ran away with a Northwest Conference win Friday night. Katrina Gimmaka led all scorers with 19 points, and Jenna Tenkley chipped in 11 for the Pioneers. Mount Baker was led by Jordan LaTorre with 11 points.

Sehome 47, Blaine 31 – Sarah Eisses led the visiting Mariners with 14 points as Sehome earned a Northwest Conference win. Carissa McDowell followed with 12 points in a game where the Mariners put forth a consistent defensive effort, according to coach Scott Larrabee.
