How would the Lynden boys fare against the defending 4A state champ?
The Lynden boys basketball team took to the road Monday to defeat defending 4A state champion Kentwood 48-43 in the King Showcase at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
“It was a game of runs,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said. “We went up, then we were down, then up again. Fortunately, we were up at the end of the game.”
Roper said he valued the experience of playing against a quality opponent such as Kentwood. Christian Zamora dropped a team-high 23 points, including six clutch free-throws in the fourth quarter to help put the game away.
Lynden has won its last five games and are set to host Sedro-Woolley Tuesday before squaring off with conference leader Lynden Christian on the road Friday.
Boys’ results
Nooksack Valley 65, Bellingham 59 – Bellingham went on an 18-6 run to end the first half and head into halftime trailing 32-30, but the Pioneers were too much in the second half as Nooksack Valley earned the Northwest Conference win.
Mount Baker 65, Squalicum 60 (OT) – Mount Baker had a chance to win the game in regulation after a layup tied the game and a Mountaineer was fouled, but the free-throw attempt rattled out. In overtime, Ethan Gates scored five of his seven points including three from the free-throw line to ice the game.
