A pair of Whatcom County high school softball players who will be sophomores next season have been selected to represent the Northwest region at the United States Specialty Sport Association Elite Select U14 Futures All-American Games next month in Kissimmee, Fla.

Sehome pitcher Savannah Smith and Blaine outfielder Holly Siebol will be teammates on the Northwest American squad.

Each was selected after attending a regional tryout last spring in Centralia.

Smith was named as a player to watch by Jami Lobpries, vice president of USSSA Select, on the USSSA Select Elite video announcing the Northwest selections.

“Very good velocity,” Lobpries said of Smith’s abilities in the video. “Also a very good athlete with lots of range on the infield.”

The tournament will feature top players from eight regions around the country competing Aug. 1-6.
