Ferndale left 10 runners on base in its 3-1 loss to Arlington in the first round of the 3A District Tournament on Saturday, May 7, at Arlington High School.
Despite getting nine hits, the Golden Eagles were only able to score a run in the fifth inning thanks to Kyle Sandstrom who was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Ferndale had scoring chances in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but could only cash in during the fifth inning. In the seventh, Ferndale loaded the bases while down 3-1 but couldn’t capitalize.
“It was a well played game and we had some opportunities,” coach Donny Hennigs said. “We couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it.”
Mason Shaw earned his third loss of the year but only allowed six hits and walked two while striking out five.
