Sehome thrills large home crowd with big win over Ferndale

Sehome earned a 9-5 Northwest Conference win over Ferndale on Monday, May 2, in front of full grandstands at Joe Martin Field.

The Sehome fans came out in full support of the Mariners and were treated to Dylan Harper’s sixth win of the year. Dane Faris went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a double and Felix Zavisubin was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

”It was great Sehome-community support,” coach Monte Walton said in a phone interview. “On a nice day like this, it’s fun to have a good crowd and see the grandstands full.”

Lynden 18, Sedro-Woolley 0 (5): Trevin Hope had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning until he gave up a hit in Lynden’s Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley. Hope walked two and struck out six to help Lynden improve to 9-2 in NWC play. The Lions play Squalicum Tuesday, May 3 in the final game of the regular season.

Blaine 2, Meridian 0: Jonathan Starcer went the distance to give Blaine a Northwest Conference win over Meridian. Starcer struck out eight and only walked one batter as he handcuffed Meridian all game. Brendan Riddle had two of Blaine’s six hits, as the Borderites scored twice in the fifth inning.

Anacortes 13, Nooksack Valley 4: Nooksack Valley rested its top pitchers in a Northwest Conference loss to Anacortes. With a playoff spot already wrapped up, the Pioneers allowed 13 runs on 14 hits, including five runs in the sixth inning to break the game open. Noah Rawls went 3 for 4, and both Kyle and Kirk Veldman were 1 for 2 with a RBI.

Squalicum 15, Mount Baker 3: Squalicum had 15 runs on 11 hits in its Northwest Conference victory over Mount Baker. Ernie Yake led the way with four hits and three RBI, including a home run. Will Nickelson also drove in three runs and had a double.

Bellingham 8, Lynden Christian 6: Bellingham scored eight runs, but only three of them were earned, as the Red Raiders won a Northwest Conference game against Lynden Christian. The Lyncs committed three errors in the game and allowed five runs in the fourth inning. Kyle Dether was 1 for 5 with a 2-run home run.
