Meridian holds on to 1st place in Class 1A

Meridian scored four runs in the sixth inning in a 5-1 Northwest Conference win against Bellingham on Thursday, April 28, at Joe Martin Field.

The Red Raiders struggled with bunt defense as they committed two of its three errors leading to four runs and the difference in the game. Meridian is in first place among 1A schools with just two games left in the season.

“It was a big game for us,” Meridian coach Steve Slesk said. “We’re fighting to keep that first place seed.”

Nooksack Valley 11, Mount Baker 10: Nooksack Valley scored eight runs in the first three innings and was able to hold on for a Northwest Conference win against Mount Baker. Evan Dietling was 3 for 4 with a single, double and an RBI and Mike Jackson was 2 for 5 with two singles and an RBI.

Sehome 12, Blaine 2 (6): Sehome’s batters walked eight times en route to a Northwest Conference victory over Blaine in six innings. The Mariners scored seven runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth inning. Felix Zavisubin earned his fourth win of the year and struck out five.

Sedro-Woolley 11, Lynden Christian 7: Despite out-hitting Sedro-Woolley, Lynden Christian couldn’t capitalize on its chances in a Northwest Conference loss. David Bladies and Tyson Cline were both 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Anacortes 5, Lynden 0: The Lions lost a Northwest Conference game against the Seahawks. No other information was available at press time.
