Ferndale suffers first league loss

Ferndale made some critical first-inning mistakes, fell behind early to Anacortes and could never catch up while suffering a 9-2 Northwest Conference road loss Friday, April 15, in Anacortes.

Mason Shaw (4-1) took his first loss of the season, and the Golden Eagles yielded five first-inning runs. The defeat was Ferndale’s first in league play.

“We scored a run in the first and went back out, and we were not sharp in that first inning,” Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said. “Mason wasn’t throwing that bad, and some thing started to snowball on us. Before we knew it it is was 5-1, and that had us on our heels.”

Kyle Sandstrom had two of Ferndale’s four hits and scored a run.
