Blaine escapes rocky last inning for 5th win

The Borderites survived a seventh-inning charge by Bellingham to win a Northwest Conference game 4-2 on Wednesday, April 13, at Joe Martin Field.

Blaine led 4-0 after scoring two runs in the seventh but after pitcher Jonathan Starcer had thrown his 105th pitch, coach Larry Hoffman pulled him in favor of Josh Fakkema. Fakkema proceeded to give up back-to-back doubles before a groundball to third ended the game.

“That took 10 years off my life,” Hoffman said. “We battled all day and Bellingham just didn’t quit.”
