Meridian baseball earns 6-3 victory at Cascade

The Meridian baseball team earned a 6-3 nonleague victory Thursday, April 7, at Cascade High School in Leavenworth.

Devyn Holmes (1-1) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and only one walk and giving up only one run.

At the plate, Dakota Jones was 2 for 3, Quinn Swanson was 1 for 2, Simon Burkett was 2 for 3 and Tyler Linderman was 1 for 4.

Trojans coach Steve Slesk said he was happy with the win despite a couple hiccups.

“We had a couple miscues in the fourth that cost us a bit,” Slesk said in a phone interview, “The kids did a good job of hitting in clutch situations so I was really happy about that.”

Blaine 12, Cascade (Leavenworth) 3: The Borderites racked up 16 hits and scored in every inning but the fourth during a lopsided nonleague road win. Jalen Kortlever was 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, Jon Starer had three hits and Josh Fakkema was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and RBI. Anthony Ball (2-1) earned the win, giving up two runs in five innings.
