Campfield fans 10 in win over Sedro-Woolley
Derek Campfield had his best outing of the season to help Meridian earn a Northwest Conference win 2-0 over Sedro-Woolley on Monday, April 4, at Janicki Fields.
Campfield (1-2) pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out 10. He was also 1 for 3 with an RBI. Coach Steve Slesk said Campfield’s performance was the key to the win.
“It was a very a clean, comeptitive game by Derek,” Slesk said in a phone interview. “One of our better games as far as focus goes.”

Squalicum 5, Nooksack Valley 1: Will Nickleson tossed a complete game to give Squalicum a Northwest Conference victory over Nooksack Valley. Nickleson had four strikeouts and needed only 91 pitches to go the distance. Ernie Yake jump-started the Storm’s offense with a two-RBI double in the first inning.
Lynden 16, Mt. Baker 3 (5): Lynden sent 19 men to the plate in a 13-run first inning in a Northwest Conference win over Mount Baker. Dawson Ohligschlager led the charge with two RBI on three hits but also had help from Jordan Wittenberg who was 2-3 with a triple and two RBI. Trevin Hope earned his fourth win of the year.
Mount Vernon 7, Ferndale 0: The Golden Eagles managed only three hits and were held scoreless against Mount Vernon in a nonleague game. Ferndale didn’t have a good plan at the plate and struck out more than it is used to, according to coach Donny Hennigs.
Burlington-Edison 6, Blaine 1: The Borderites were held to one run on one hit in a Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison. It was a 2-1 game heading into the bottom of the fifth inning until Blaine allowed four runs and weren’t able to score again. Jalen Kortlever was 1 for 2.
Anacortes 10, Lynden Christian 3: Lynden Christian trailed from start to finish in a Northwest Conference loss to Anacortes. The Lyncs gave up two runs in the first inning and were never able to recover despite Tyson Cline going 2 for 3 with a solo home run. David Bladies was 1 for 1 with a double.
