Prep baseball roundup: Lions benefit from Borderites’ errors
The Blaine baseball team stormed back from a 5-1 deficit in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead only to commit two errors on a Lynden sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the seventh during Lynden’s 7-6 victory Tuesday, March 15, at Lynden.
“The way (Blaine) fought to get back in the game, it’s a tough way to lose a game,” Lynden coach Cory White said in a phone interview. “I was proud of our kids. Win or lose, it was a good game.”
Trevin Hope (1-0) got off the hook and earned the victory as he pitched the top of the seventh. Anthony Garcia pitched five innings for Lynden, striking out four and giving up one hit.
Jared House was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI and Rylan Severson was 1 for 2 with two RBI for the Lions, and Josh Fakkema was 1 for 3 with two RBI for Blaine.

Sehome 11, Mount Baker 1 (5): Evan Kingma struck out six and gave up one hit as the Mariners beat the Mountaineers in five innings at Joe Martin Field. Felix Zavisubin was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Owen Wright had one hit, two RBI and a double and Kealohi Grondin had a hit a double and three RBI.
Squalicum 5, Meridian 0: Storm pitcher Will Nickelson earned the win and helped hold Meridian to four hits, while Trojans pitcher Derek Campfield took the loss. Jack Boysen went 2 of 3, and Ernie Yake was 1 for 4 with a double. Quinn Swanson accounted for two of Meridian’s four hits.
Lynden Christian 8, La Conner 4: Marc Meenderink was 3 for 4 with a double, a run and two RBI and pitched the final three innings for the win at home. Tyson Cline had an RBI and a walk and Andrew Vander Mey was 1 for 2 with a walk and three stolen bases.
