Bellingham comes back to top Orcas Island
Bellingham High School football made a major comeback and had their fourth straight win on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a 20-13 win over Orcas Island.
“We came out pretty slow,” Bellingham coach Ted Flint said in a phone interview. “We were down 13-0 and then we came back and made it 13-7 at half time. Then, the first play of the second half scored on a long pass.”
A strong drive toward the end of the second half put the final score at 20-13 for Bellingham, Flint said.
Nick Knutson, Zach Lorenz and Dakota Johanson ran the ball well, Flint said.
The offensive line of Theo Vinup, Jake Dudoward, Tevon Lautenbach, Trent Helming , Nick Oesterling and Koa Hanks did well to help Bellingham’s rushing game, Flint said.
“We were able to finish off the game by getting a lot of first downs,” Flint said.
This was the first 11-man football game played on Lopez Island, Flint said islanders told him.
Bellingham’s next game is against La Conner at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at La Conner High School.
