The Lummi 4x100 meter relay team won a state title during the Class 1B State Championships on Saturday, May 28, at Eastern Washington University.
The group of Free Borsey, Quincy Lane, Raven Borsey and Trazil Lane teamed up to run a 44.62 which beat last year’s first-place time of 44.87 set by a group from Neah Bay. The second place team from Grace Academy had a time of 45.09.
Last year, the relay team dropped the baton at tri-districts. Athletic director Jim Sandusky said the boys had been working hard to win at state since that moment.
“That’s all they’ve talked about since then,” Sandusky said.

Sandusky said the team’s transitions were smooth on their handoffs and that they kept accelerating from the start.
