Edison takes sixth in 3A discus
Two-and-a-half months ago Ferndale junior Gabrielle Edison was just learning how to throw the discus as a newcomer to the sport.
She said a boys’ thrower saw potential in her and convinced her to give throwing a try.
“One day during weight training a boy, he threw the disc,” Edison explained. “I went out with him and just did it, and he said I was pretty good, and I thought, ‘Ok, I’ll try it.”
It was a good decision.
Edison improved drastically throughout the season and capped her year with a sixth-place finish in the discus during the Class 3A State Championships on Saturday, May 28, at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
Edison’s top throw was 115 feet, 5 inches. She also competed in the shot put, settling for 13th place with a top throw of 34-7.75.
The only other Golden Eagle competing Saturday was freshman Rylee Weg, who finished 11th place in the triple jump with a mark of 34-11.75.
