2 Ferndale boys advance to state, 5 out of 6 girls go to 2nd round of districts
Ferndale’s Dane Larsen and Keenan Souve are advancing to the state tournament after shooting well enough during the boys’ Class 3A Northwest District Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 17, at Snohomish Golf Course.
Larsen followed up his 81 Monday, May 16 with an 81 Tuesday and Souve improved four strokes on his score to post an 80. Coach Joel Wark said his golfers were a little more relaxed today.
“They carried themselves well on the golf course and were much more comfortable,” Wark said. “They had to make an adjustment to yardage and green speeds and I thought they did that.”
Larsen and Souve will play in the Class 3A State Championships on Tuesday, May 24, at Creek at Qualchan Golf Course, in Spokane, Wash.
Ferndale girls advance six to second round
Five out of six Ferndale girls golfers made the cut to advance to day two of the district tournament on Wednesday, May 18, at Kayak Golf Course in Stanwood.
Maeson Mullins (100), Jillian Anderson (102), Lauren Hamm (102), Courtney Waytashek (109) and Sienna Heredia (111) all finished at or below the cutline of 111. Ferndale’s Saylor Greenwood (122) missed the cut.
The six golfers combined to give Ferndale a team score of 524, which puts them in fourth place for the team title.
