Squalicum’s Catherine Michelutti continued her dominant postseason play with two wins and cemented a trip to state during the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament on Monday, May 16, at Sehome High School.
Michelutti, who has yet to lose in this postseason, defeated Sehome’s Sidney Balfour 6-0, 6-0 and then beat Anacortes’ Nicole McInemy 6-1, 6-2. She’ll play Kassidee Beuse of Sedro-Woolley in the championship match on Tuesday, May 17.
Sehome’s doubles duo of Lauren Smith and Andrea Zucchi will battle Ellie Iwersen and Oriana LoCicero from Bellingham on Tuesday after both pairings won two matches Monday. Smith and Zucchi got a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anacortes’ Wendy Mathias and Alice Reide and a 6-0, 6-3 win over Bellingham’s Sophia Lawrence and Alice Hiebert, while Iwersen and LoCiecero beat Sehome’s Mia Zucchi and Beth Clawson 7-6 (3), 6-0 and Sehome’s Hailey Holland and Sydney Leiweke 6-2, 6-1 to advance.
Both championship matches are repeats of the finals from last week’s sub-district tournament and guarantee the participants a trip to state next week.
