Local schools place well in sub-district track prelims

Local high schools won six out of the nine finals events in the Class 2A Sub-District Track Prelims on Wednesday, May 11, at Civic Stadium.

Lynden and Bellingham had two first-place finishes each. Lynden’s Nick Faber won the high jump with a 6-foot, 5-inch leap and Grant Scarlett finished first in the long jump with a length of 21-1 1/4.

Bellingham’s Jakob Chamberlain placed first in the shot put with a throw of 49-10 and Annika Reiss finished first in the 1600-meter race in 5:17.33.

Sehome’s Colton Johnson legged out Dylan Holland of Anacortes to win the 1,600 with a time of 4:18.33.

“It was a real workman like race,” Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said. “All of our projected kids got through so I’m really happy about today.”

The top eight finishers in each event qualify for the Class 2A District 1 Prelims on Wednesday, May 18. Also qualifying will be the top four from the Cascade Conference, the top one from the Wesco Conference and the next three best marks.
