The Lynden Christian softball team and the Sehome boys’ tennis team have won academic state titles, according to a release by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Friday, May 6.
The Lyncs own a 13-3 overall record and stand fourth in the Northwest Conference with a 7-3 league record this spring. The team, which is coached by Mitch Moorlag, posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.777, which was tops among Class 1A schools in the state.
The Mariners, who played their regular season and district tournament during the fall, won the Northwest Conference with a perfect 14-0 record, won the team district title and will send singles player Max Shmotolokha and doubles pair Reece Gilbert and Shane Lynette to state later this month. The team, which is coached by Bonna Giller, compiled a 3.813 GPA, which was the highest among Class 2A schools in the state.
