The Lynden boys’ track and field team took first overall at the Add It Up Invitational Saturday, April 16, at Franklin Pierce High School, while the Lions girls’ team claimed the trophy for the best sprint team.
Grant Scarlett led the way for the boys, winning the long jump (20 feet, 0.5 inches) and triple jump (42-3.5) and teaming with Travis Marquez, Brandon Swarthout and Christian Payne to win the the 4x100 relay in 43.64 seconds. Aaron Weidenaar also won the high jump (6-2), while James Mitchell claimed the discus title (136-9).
Jasmyne Neria won the girls’ 400 in 59.87 seconds and teamed with Sierra Smith, Cassidee Barclay and Lauren Zwiers to run the 4x400 relay in 4:08.78, improving upon their time that already was the best in Class 2A. Smith, Barclay and Zwiers joined Hailey DiLorenzo to win the 4x100 relay in 51.68 seconds.
