Cooke’s walkoff lifts Bellingham past Granite Falls

Bellingham nearly squandered a five-run, first-inning lead, but Bobby Cooke came up clutch with a two-out, two-strike game-winning RBI to lead the Red Raiders to a 9-8 nonleague win over Granite Falls on Saturday, March 26, in Bellingham.

Bellingham led 6-1 after the first, but the Tigers scored in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 8, setting up Cooke’s late-game heroics.

“Two outs and two strikes and (Cooke) lined the ball into center to win,” Bellingham coach David Farrell said. “It was a fun game to be a part of.”

Kyle Payne earned the win on the mound. Cooke finished 3 for 5, Kyle Dether was 3 for 5 with a double, Jonny Larson had a double and three RBI and Austin Shenton recorded a pair of hits.

Bellingham (4-3, 1-0 NWC) faces Ferndale next at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Joe Martin Field.
