Four Whatcom County relays and 10 individuals earned wild-card bids to the Class 2A Boys’ Swimming State Championships on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
The Lynden 200 medley relay, Bellingham’s 200 freestyle relay and the Squalicum and Lynden 400 freestyle relay teams all earned trips to state.
Individually, Sehome’s Payton Johnson and Bellingham’s Bradley Rubio earned bids in the 200 freestyle, Sehome’s Brian Whitney and Joseph Adams earned bids in the 50 freestyle, Squalicum’s Colby Vermeulen, Bellingham’s Jay Zerbst and Sehome’s Trey Herron earned spots in diving, Squalicum’s Franz Allendorfer earned a trip in the 100 backstroke and Sehome’s Christopher Lo and Lynden’s Justin Hagedorn earned bids in the 100 breaststroke.
Wild cards are given to swimmers or relays with the top non-qualifying times in the state to fill out the fields in each event. The state preliminaires will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, with the finals to follow on Saturday, Feb. 20.
