Tuesday’s prep basketball update: Mitchell, Westbrook lead Squalicum past Sehome

Damek Mitchell had 25 points and Josiah Westbrook had 17 points, seven assists and eight rebounds as the Storm earned a Northwest Conference victory over the Mariners. Leighton Kingma had 26 points for Sehome and Logan Deboo added 15 points.

Ferndale 60, Blaine 43: Austin Honeycut had 20 points, Dane Larsen added 14 points, John Weg added 11 as the Golden Eagles earned a Northwest Conference victory at home over the Borderites. Kier Munzanreder had 16 points to lead Blaine.

Lummi 66, Lopez 26: Trazil Lane scored a game-high 22 points to lead Lummi to a 66-26 league win over Lopez on senior night Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Lummi Nation High School. Mike Washington scored 12 points, and Free Borsey added 10. Lummi led Lopez 10-8 after the first quarter, but the Blackhawks outscored their opponent 41-10 during the second and third quarters.

Lynden 79, Burlington-Edison 51: Christian Zamora scored a season-high 21 points, and Jordan Wittenberg chipped in 17 to guide Lynden to a league win over Burlington-Edison. Sterling Somers finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists. The Lions, who pushed their win streak to six games, outscored the Tigers 23-5 during the first quarter.


Sehome 40, Squalicum 32: Powered by Madison Ulrich’s 16 points, Sehome earned its second straight win with a league victory over Squalicum. Natalie Zender, who finished with nine points, hit two 3s before halftime, which spurred the Mariners to outscore Squalicum 24-14 during the second half. Squalicum’s Sarah Hubert scored a team-high 11 points for the Storm.

Ferndale 49, Blaine 40: Blaine hung tough with a strong Ferndale team but ultimately suffered a Northwest Conference loss. Blaine was led by Kjirstin Larson’s game-high 11 points. Ferndale’s Gabrielle Edison scored a team-high nine, and Peyton Humbert added eight. The Borderites limited turnovers in the second half and outscored the Golden Eagles 24-19.
