GIRLS’ WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Mount Baker wins Lipstick Tournament

Mount Baker came in first at the Lady Lipstick Open with 220 points on on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Federal Way was second with 144 points, Yelm third at 134, and Lynden came in fourth with 99 points.

“It was one of the toughest tournaments we had,” Mount Baker coach Clyde Blockley said in a phone interview. “All the girls wrestled really good.”

Three girls placed first for Mount Baker, Natalie Smith (125), Taylor Van Brocklin (135) and Rachel Nichols (145).

Korbyn Cadle (120) and Aneicea Camacho (155) placed second.

In third place were Maria Torrero (100), Gabrielle Mata (105), Michelle Mata (110), Teagan Manzo (115), Shelby Sears (170) and Kimmi Swindon (235).

Thalia Valez took first place in the finals for Lynden. Seniada Veliz tied for third and Karina Martinez tied for fifth.

Up next

Lynden girls’ wrestling will host Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Mount Baker girls’ will compete at the Lady Wolfpack Invite at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Jackson High School.
