WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Mount Baker girls claim 7 titles
Mount Baker’s girls’ wrestling team sent seven to The Pride of the Lynden Tournament finals, and all seven earned tournament titles Saturday, Dec. 19, in Lynden.
Korbyn Cadle (120 pounds), Natalie Smith (125), Taylor Van Brocklin (135), Marissa Amarando (140), Aneicea Camacho (155), Rachel Nichols (170) and Akemi Schwinden (235) were those winners.
“I was surprised with how well the girls wrestled,” Baker coach Clyde Blockley said. “You get seven girls in the finals, you don’t expect all seven of them to win.”
Baker won the 20-team tournament with 220 points, Lynden placed second with 153 points, Burlington-Edison (115) was third and Nooksack Valley (111) finished fourth.
Bellingham city wrestling program, casually known as United, took seventh and showed “great improvements,” coach Brian Porteus said.
Aryanna Tejada finished third in the 120-pound class, Sydney Cone finished third at 140 and Enedina Espinoza finished third at 235. Melissa Ortiz came in fourth at 115.

Seven wrestlers placed for Blaine during the Mann Classic Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 19, at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, Calif.
