WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Baker girls win Jump On In
Mount Baker’s girls’ wrestling team won the Jump On In Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Yelm.
The Mountaineers had two first-place finishers on the day — Natalie Smith (125) and Akemi Schwinden (235).
Second-place finishers from Mount Baker included Korbyn Cadle (13), Taylor Van Brocklin (135) and Rachel Nichols (170).
Michelle Mata (110), Gabrielle Mata (115) and Marissa Amarando (140) finished third.
Red Raiders put up strong showing at George Yonlick
Bellingham boys’ wrestling went 3-1 at the George Yonlick Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Bellingham High School.
Senior Romeo Mendez went 3-1 with three pins, junior Chris Thompson went 4-0 along with senior Chance Poasa, who also went undefeated on the day.
The Red Raiders got wins over Burlington-Edison, Anacortes and a tight 40-37 win over Mount Baker. Their lone loss was to Marysville-Getchell.
Blaine takes third at Mariner Holiday Wrestling Tournament
Blaine’s boys’ wrestling team took third of 15 schools at the Mariner Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Mariner High School.
Anthony Frey (145) and Riley Fritsch (170) both won their respective weight classes while Derek Camba took home the “most falls” award as he had four first-period pins on his way to an 132-pound division win.
Caleb Frey (152) and Tristan Alanis (182) finished second.
