Ferndale volleyball opens with sweep
Ferndale volleyball entered the postseason with a strong 3-0 win over Glacier Peak on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Shorewood High School.
“We were coming off a regular season game and wanted to make a statement about how the postseason would go,” Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “We wanted to show off our hard work and compete at a higher level, especially against a team as strong as Glacier Peak.”
It was a good first showing at district. Ferndale came prepared to face Glacier Peak and was able to execute, she said.
Whitney Walker led Ferndale with 12 kills. Taryn Potter had seven kills and five blocks. Julia Olsen had four aces.
“Our team captain Taryn Potter did a great job tonight showing leadership and intensity,” Hoelzle said. “She played out of the middle tonight and got some great blocks and really made sure that the team was playing at a higher level.”
Ferndale moves on to the semifinal round of the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament against Shorewood at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Shorewood.

Game scores: 25-20, 25-16, 25-19.
