Lynden Christian volleyball is going on to the Northwest District Tournament championship after its 3-1 win against Cedar Park Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Lynden Christian High School.
Meridian lost earlier in the day to Cedar Park, 3-0, pushing them to an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Cedar Park Christian High School. Nooksack Valley also played on Wednesday but the scores were unavailable at press time to be included in the consideration of upcoming games.
“We battled (Cedar Park) earlier on this season in the district tournament, last year was the championship, so we knew it was going to be a tough battle,” Lynden Christian coach Kim Grycel said. “The girls never gave up, even after we lost that first set.”
Kara Bajema led Lynden Christian with 33 kills and 15 digs. Hannah Rusnak followed with 20 kills and 10 digs. Carli Tjoelker led with 50 assists.
The biggest fight of the game was blocking Cedar Park junior Samantha Drechsel, Grycel said.
“We were able to put some blocks on her and were able to transition and get a kill, which is just what we needed,” she said.
The Northwest District Championship will take place at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31, at Cedar Park Christian High School.
