Jessie Alvord is a junior middle blocker on Squalicum High School’s volleyball team. When not on the court, she is exploring the San Juan Islands on her boat and pursuing her love of photography.
As an athlete, Alvord puts her education first in her plans for after high school, wanting to pursue a career following the math and science classes that she enjoys so much.
Question: What are some things you like to do outside of school and volleyball?
Answer: I play fastpitch and I’m also a part of Young Life. ... Volleyball takes up most of my time but other than that I mostly just hangout out with my friends and family.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your volleyball team?
A: Our team laughs the entire time we are together. We have dance parties before games and we always have a good time.
Q: What is your favorite class in school and why?
A: I like math and science and I really like visual communications because I really like photography. The math and science classes are challenging but I really enjoy it.
Q: Where is your favorite place to go in Bellingham?
A: Probably somewhere along the water, Squalicum beach. I like to watch the sunsets with my friends. I also have a boat and I like to go boating with my friends out in the islands.
Q: What are your favorite places in the San Juan Islands?
A: Roche Harbor and Lopez and Sucia, especially Roche Harbor because it is such a cute little town.
Q: What are some things that you really love? Hobbies or anything else?
A: I really like photography a lot and my dog. I love my dog. She’s a Shih Tzu-Schnauzer (a Schnau-Tzu), she’s not really that cute but my entire family thinks she’s the best thing.
