Sehome and Bellingham dominate second day of 2A district tennis
Bellingham, Sehome and Squalicum all had players advance to the semifinals in the singles and doubles courts at the end of day two of the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Sehome High School and Western Washington University.
Top-seed Max Shmotolokha from Sehome got a 6-0, 6-0 win over Squalicum’s Jared Rapp in the second round. He then ended Archbishop Murphy’s chance at a singles title with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Houston Schmutz.
Austin Shenton from Bellingham won 6-3, 7-6 (9) against Ryan Castillo of Archbishop Murphy and then William Zhang of Sehome.
From the singles side, Shmotolokha and Sedro-Woolley’s Kyle Beuse will face off Monday, Oct. 19. Emahd Khan from Shorecrest and Shenton will also play to decide who goes on to the final singles match on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
On the doubles side, a Shorecrest duo will play Colin Weller and Kevin Smiley from Squalicum in the semifinal. The Storm doubles team got wins over Anacortes and Sehome’s Darren Ma and Matthieu Jarrett.
Henry Ziels and Zach Nolan from Bellingham, which defeated teams from Archbishop Murphy and Anacortes Saturday, will play against Shane Lynette and Reece Gilbert from Sehome on the other side of the bracket on Monday, Oct. 18, to determine who goes on to play for the championship title.
Lynette and Gilbert topped Squalicum Liam Brownlie and Ethan Sayler in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-0.
