Ally Dahm is a senior defensive specialist on Lynden High School’s volleyball team. Some of Dahm’s closest friends are her teammates and that camaraderie is something she hopes will carry them through this season in a push for a championship title.
For six years she has been perfecting her game. There is nothing more satisfying than having a strong defensive save, making ups that her teammates can play off of, Dahm said.
Aside from volleyball, Dahm also rides horses and plays for Lynden’s softball team.

Answer: I think just really being out there with some of my closest friends. In an intense game it just gets so exciting and I love the energy that is on the court. I love playing it and it’s a good competitive game and a good time.
Q: What is your favorite part of the sport and how long have you been playing?
A: I have been playing since seventh grade and I just like how it challenges me. During practice and before the season we always have really tough conditioning workouts and I love pushing myself, being able to get to my limits.
Q: What is your favorite position to play and why?
A: Well I am a DS, a defensive specialist, and I really like defense because I am quick and kinda short so I’m close to the ground so I like to be flying everywhere for balls. Making a great up and saving a play is one of the most satisfying feelings ever. Then to see your hitter get a kill off of the great up that you made, it’s like, it just makes me feel so good and I love playing back row.
Q: What are your long-term volleyball goals?
A: Probably after high school I’ll be done and not play in college. But for right now I really want to see my team succeed in our conference and be able to make it to districts. We are really hoping for state this year. We have a really great group of girls that I think, once we start getting the feel of each other and how we play, can make it really far.
Q: Who is your role model and why?
A: Just everyone who has succeeded in the volleyball program. I know a couple of our programs have done pretty well in state, I don’t know all of them personally but I just want to be able to be in their shoes and I know how much you have to work to get how far they did. I look up to them for going the extra mile for everything. I try to do that, in practice and games, going the extra mile and putting in the hard work like they did.
