Prep girls’ swim preview: 5 to watch
SERENA ALLENDORFER
School: Squalicum
Year: Senior
Event: Freestyle
Outlook: Allendorfer will now take on a leadership role for the team as a senior captain, but her talent still lies in the pool. Allendorfer took third in the 100 freestyle at the Class 2A State Championships and fifth in the 50 freestyle.
SOPHIE GRAMBO
School: Sehome
Year: Senior
Event: Freestyle
Outlook: The speedy short-distance freestyle swimmer will continue to look for improvement after finishing 16th in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle at the Class 2A State Championships last year.
YANRAN LE
School: Squalicum
Year: Sophomore
Event: Individual Medley
Outlook: Le came onto the prep swimming season last year in spectacular fashion, dominating during the Northwest Conference season before taking sixth in the 200 IM at the Class 2A State Championships and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
ALIA MALELLA
School: Sehome
Year: Junior
Event: Freestyle
Outlook: The second-place state finish by the Mariners was due to the extreme depth they had and Malella fit perfectly in her first year on the team. She finished fifth in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke at the Class 2A State Championships.
SUNNI STERNHAGEN
School: Bellingham
Year: Senior
Event: Diving
Outlook: The entire Northwest Conference diving crop seems to be strong and Sunni Sternhagen is one that should make state again. She did so last year, finishing 18th, and will look to make the final 16 this year.
