FAB FIVE
G Lena Most, Garfield, jr. — The steady hand for the Bulldogs, Most facilitated and scored in Garfield’s upset of White River, scoring 14 points with three assists and four rebounds.
F Ashlyn Dress, Kennewick, sr. — Scored inside and out for the Lions, tallying 15 points and shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Added six rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in Kennewick’s win over Roosevelt.
F Grace Renners, Seattle Prep, sr. — Wasn’t the team’s leading scorer in Seattle Prep’s narrow win over Metro peer Eastside Catholic, but Renners was efficient and did a little bit of everything for the Panthers, scoring eight points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, adding 10 rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot and a pair of steals.
G Maggee Schmitz, White River, soph. — Remember the name, as Schmitz figures to do this for another couple of seasons at White River. In the team’s loss to Garfield, she scored 23 points, hauled down eight rebounds, had five assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
G Dilynn Johnson, Bellevue, fr. — Attacked the rim early and often, scoring 26 points on an efficient 10-of-19 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and a steal to lead upset-minded Wolverines into quarterfinal matchup with No. 2 North Thurston on Thursday.
QUOTABLE
Garfield guard Lena Most on the team’s seeding upset: “We hustle really hard, and I think that’s probably why we’re here today. I’m just proud of my teammates and I’m proud of (junior forward) Star (Smiley) for boxing out in crunch time.”
Kennewick coach Daron Santo on what makes this group special: “These kids play hard. I’ve been coaching for 25 years, and this team just goes at it so hard, like I’ve never seen.”
Bellevue freshman Dilynn Johnson on her aggressive approach attacking the lane: “My mindset was win. I wanted to get this dub so bad. That’s also my game, being aggressive and being a team player. I think that’s just how I play.”
