FAB FIVE
G Josiah Lee, Glacier Peak, sr. — The 6-foot-2 senior showed why he’s one of the state’s best guards, filling up the stat sheet, pouring in 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. Made five of his six free throw attempts, adding an assist. As a team, Glacier Peak shot 45.5 percent from the field.
G Daniel Johnson, Auburn, sr. — After Jaylen Petty transferred to Rainier Beach in the offseason, Johnson took on a bigger role and has thrived. In Wednesday’s opening round win over Olympia, he scored 23 points and made four of five 3-point attempts. Also had four rebounds.
G Landen Northrop, Richland, jr. — In Richland’s 1-2 punch alongside guard Lance Horntvendt, it was Northrop’s turn to shine on Wednesday. He scored a game-high 29 points, shooting 11-of-24 from the field with seven rebounds and four assists.
G Drew Jones, Puyallup, sr. — Scored a game-high 26 points and was the late-game hero, making the game-tying stepback shot with 10 seconds left in the game.
F Will Nasinec, Puyallup, jr. — Teammate Drew Jones was the team’s leading scorer, but Nasinec was an all-around, efficient machine in Puyallup’s opening-round win, posting a double-double with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, 12 rebounds and a blocked shot.
QUOTABLE
Glacier Peak’s Josiah Lee on playing breakfast ball: “We just came out a little slow. Morning game (9 a.m.), you know how it is.”
Auburn’s Daniel Johnson on avoiding a first-round upset after last year’s loss to Lincoln: “It feels great to get (the first round) out of the way and not feel that hurt again. I had that replayed in my head, last year’s (loss). I just kept playing.”
Richland’s Landen Northrop on the Bombers’ up-tempo style: “It’s just a Richland thing. We always get out and run. We’re fast.”
Puyallup guard Drew Jones on winning tight games this season: “We’ve been in these situations before. All season, multiple games. We know what it’s like.”
