TEAM PREVIEWS

No. 1 Davis (20-3) — The Pirates entered the bracket on a 12-game win streak without an in-state loss all season until No. 8 Sumner upset the tournament’s top seed, 67-62, in the regional round. Sophomore guard and Columbia Basin MVP Cheyenne Hull averages a double-double (22 PPG, 11 RPG) and makes everything go, one of four Pirates in double-digits. Isa Garcia (16.3 PPG) shot over 50 percent from the field to break the school’s single-season record for three-point shooting percentage (42% 3PM), and Averie Brandt (11 PPG) added 54 treys this season. Davis meets No. 9 Mead in Wednesday’s Round of 12, a team they beat, 70-50, on Dec. 6.

No. 2 Lake Washington (24-4) — A perennial heavyweight in the 3A bracket, Lake Washington ascended to 4A last offseason and will test its talents in the state’s biggest classification at the Tacoma Dome. After two regular-season losses to No. 4 Woodinville, the Kangs earned revenge in the district tournament en route to KingCo and District 1/2 titles. Is the state trophy next? Junior guard Ashley Uusitalo (17.7 PPG) is the floor general and top option for a Lake Washington program that enters the Tacoma Dome on a nine-game win streak. Kangs won the KingCo conference for a sixth straight season; Uusitalo became the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made.

No. 3 Chiawana (23-1) — The Riverhawks flushed losing from their systems early on: Chiawana dropped their season opener to Prosser, 76-67, on Dec. 10 and hasn’t lost since. Yes, that’s 23 straight wins for a program returning to the Tacoma Dome for the first time in three years. Chiawana boasts three scorers averaging double-digits, paced by senior center Malia Ruud (16.3 PPG, 8.8 RPG) and senior shooting guard Kaia Foster (15.5 PPG, 10 RPG). Standout wins include vs. No. 9 Mead (twice) and Kamiakin (twice).

No. 4 Woodinville (24-4) — The 2022 state champions fell in the quarterfinals each of the past two seasons, but could this be the year Woodinville gets back to the final four and beyond? The Falcons knocked off No. 2 Lake Washington on Jan. 8, 57-51, in a two-game split and beat state-rival No. 13 Glacier Peak twice by 27+ points. Junior guard Jazlyn Wilkerson can score from way downtown (18.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG); Hailey Quiggle (14 PPG) and Sienna Bieler (11.1 PPG) comprise Woodinville’s big three averaging double-digits.

No. 5 Union (20-4) — The 4A Greater St. Helens champions possess one of the state’s elite scorers in junior guard Brooklynn Haywood (32 PPG), the four-star recruit and league MVP who can drop 40 points on any given night. Her latest effort? 38 points on 13-of-23 shooting in Friday’s regional loss to No. 4 Woodinville, 70-66, sending Union to Wednesday’s Round of 12 at the Tacoma Dome. Sophomores Jalise Chatman is proving a reliable second option with 11 points per game, and Myla Larry does it all with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. Union’s strength of schedule includes a one-point loss to No. 1 Davis and four-game split (2-2) with No. 7 Camas, the defending state champ. Haywood, a Fircrest native, is the top combo guard in the state’s 2026 class, per 247Sports, and the No. 22 player in national rankings.

No. 6 Auburn (20-7) — The District ¾ champions took down No. 7 Camas with Ariyana Deloney’s last-minute triple in the title game, a thrilling game-winner over the defending state champs. There’s plenty of star power on this Trojans squad, powered by NPSL Player of the Year Avery Hansen and first-teamer Keleesa Howard (Deloney was named to the 4A NPSL’s first team, too). Marquee wins include over No. 7 Camas, No. 12 Emerald Ridge, and Alameda (CA).

No. 7 Camas (19-8) — The Papermakers hoisted 4A’s first-place trophy inside the Tacoma Dome one year ago, avenging their loss in the 2023 title game. Now, they’re back to defend their crown. Camas graduated all-state forward Addison Harris to Montana State University last spring, but the Papermakers return senior guard Keirra Thompson (18.4 PPG), sophomore guard Lauren Hood (12.1 PPG), and senior forward Sophie Buzzard (14.7 PPG). They fell to No. 2 Lake Washington in the regional round, 65-49, and needs to win four games at the Tacoma Dome to repeat. One of the tournament’s better-shooting teams split four games with No. 5 Union and fell to No. 6 Auburn in the District 3/4 championship game by one point, 46-45.

No. 8 Sumner (24-4) — It’s the Kawehi Borden and Olivia Collins Show in the Valley, the star backcourt combining for 31 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five steals per game. Katie Hyppa’s Spartans fell to eventual-champion Camas in last year’s state semifinals, but there’s no reason Borden and Collins’ size and athleticism can’t get them back. Need proof? Sumner just took down No. 1 Davis on the road in the regional round, 67-62, advancing straight to Thursday’s quarterfinals, and already toppled the likes of No. 12 Emerald Ridge (2-1), Tahoma and 3A’s Garfield.

No. 9 Mead (17-7) — The Panthers joined Lake Washington in a move up to 4A last fall, loading the state’s best bracket with the defending 3A runner-up. Mead graduated All-State pick and Boise State guard Teryn Gardner but returns leading-scorer and All-GSL pick Addison Wells-Morrison (16.2 PPG) — the daughter of former Gonzaga standout and two-time NBA champion Adam Morrison. Mead makes their fourth straight appearance in the state tournament after fifth-, third- and second-place finishes in the 3A bracket from 2022-24. Sophomore point guard Elli Thornton averages 10.7 PPG and 3.5 APG.

No. 11 Redmond (23-4) — A high-powered backcourt of Iha Kasam (20.7 PPG) and Sofia Locati (17.3 PPG, 9.2 RPG) lead the way in Redmond. The Mustangs won 10 straight games to begin the season and, of their four losses all year, three were to state-bracket neighbors (Lake Washington, Issaquah, Woodinville). Redmond emerged in last weekend’s regional round over Kennedy Catholic, 61-53, to book their trip to the Tacoma Dome.

No. 13 Glacier Peak (19-7) — After a 5-5 start, the Grizzlies roared back to win nine of their last 10 games, including a regional win over No. 12 Emerald Ridge to return to the Tacoma Dome for the first time in five seasons. Senior guard Brynna Pukis directs the offense, a Long Beach State commit who can roll to the rim or pull up from beyond the arc. Senior forward Rikki Miller co-led all scorers with 15 points alongside Pukis in Glacier Peak’s regional win.

No. 15 Lake Stevens (18-7) — Now in back-to-back seasons, Lake Stevens rallied through the regional round for a trip to the Tacoma Dome, but it will need to knock off defending 4A-champ Camas on Wednesday to keep dancing. The sister-duo backcourt of Keira and Noelani Tupua run the show, combining for 34 points, 18 rebounds and nearly seven steals per game. Keira (17.8 PPG) is Lake Stevens’ leading scorer and Noelani (16 PPG, 10 RPG) averages a double-double.

TNT CHAMPIONSHIP PICK

No. 2 Lake Washington 58, No. 4 Woodinville 53
