Day 2: Top performers from 2B, 2A and 4A state football championships at Husky Stadium

The Class 2B, 2A and 4A high school football state championship games are being played on Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle. The 1B, 1A and 3A games were played on Friday. Here are a few of the top performers from Day 2.

CLASS 2B

Final score: No. 1 Okanogan 52, No. 3 Napavine 21

Total offense: Okanogan 396 yards; Napavine 230 yards

Top performers: Okanogan quarterback Carter Kuchenbuch found the end zone seven times in the win, rushing 20 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns and completing 8-of-11 passes for 142 yards and four more touchdowns. Taige Mendenhall was his top target, tallying 61 yards on two touchdowns on two receptions.

Numbers tell the story: Okanogan converted nine of its 12 third-down attempts and two of its three fourth-down attempts.

Did you know? That’s Okanogan’s second straight state championship and both have come against Napavine. Okanogan beat Napavine in last year’s title game, 28-24.

CLASS 2A

Final score: No. 2 Anacotes 20, No. 1 Tumwater 10

Total offense: Anacortes 207 yards; Tumwater 260

Top performers: The Anacortes defense flew around all night — four Seahawks players tallied at least 10 tackles: Brady Beaner (18), Brock Beaner (15), Dre Quintino (14) and Tyler Olson (10). Brady Beaner also had two tackles for loss. Offensively, receiver Rylin Lang had 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns on four receptions. Brock Beaner led the rushing attack with 62 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. For Tumwater, Cash Short had 95 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.

Numbers tell the story: Tumwater actually outgained Anacortes, 260 to 207, but the T-Birds struggled to finish drives, getting points in just two of their four trips to the red zone, and just one touchdown.

Did you know? That’s back-to-back titles for the Seahawks. Anacortes also defeated Tumwater in last year’s title game, 60-30.

CLASS 4A

Final score: No. 2 Sumner 27, No. 1 Camas 24

Total offense: Sumner 426 yards; Camas 326

Top performers: Sumner RB Steele Isaacs took 35 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns, and WR Kainoa Grounds posted a game-high 148 receiving yards. Spartans QB Nate Donavan completed 18-of-29 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown; Camas QB Jake Davidson completed 22-of-31 passes for 271 yards and three scores. Neither threw an interception. Camas WR Chase McGee secured 9-of-11 targets for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Numbers tell the story: Sumner won the turnover battle (1-0) in what became a one-possession nail-biter. Kicker Austin Ferencz drilled a 21-yard field goal at the horn to lift the Spartans to the 4A title.

Did you know? Head coach Keith Ross won his first state championship ring in his 23rd season with Sumner.
