Five Whatcom County prep baseball players have earned all-state recognition this week from the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association.
Ferndale’s Brady Shearer, Squalicum’s Ernie Yake, Lynden’s Jordan Wittenberg, Sehome’s Owen Wright and Nooksack Valley’s Ryan Gelwicks each earned second-team honors.
Shearer, a four-year varsity catcher, helped led the Golden Eagles to the first round of the Class 3A State Tournament. He hit for a .455 average, with 15 runs and 14 RBI.
Yake separated himself as arguably the top defensive shortstop in the district and was paramount in the Storm finishing third place in the Class 2A State Tournament. He hit .345 with 21 runs scored and 11 RBI.

Wright played outstanding behind the plate, catching for Sehome’s strong pitching staff. He was hands down the team’s top hitter, batting for a .424 average with 16 RBI.
Gelwicks helped the Pioneers reach the Class 1A State Tournament and hit for a .387 average with 21 runs scored.
Wittenberg turned in another outstanding season for the Lions.
