UW, Chris Petersen agree to 2-year contract extension
The University of Washington and football coach Chris Petersen have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2020 season, the school announced Thursday morning.
Petersen’s compensation in 2019 and 2020 will be $4 million per year, the same as the final year (2018) of his original deal.
A UW spokesperson said a formal copy of Petersen’s new contract is not yet available.
Each of the Huskies’ assistant coaches originally signed two-year deals that expire at the end of January. New deals have not been reached for any of them yet, a spokesperson said.
Petersen originally signed a five-year deal through the 2018 season worth $18 million total. The Huskies have a 13-12 record through nearly two full seasons under Petersen. They conclude the 2015 regular season Friday with the Apple Cup game against Washington State.
“Coach Petersen has demonstrated tremendous integrity and is building a program that Husky fans can be proud of, both on and off the field,” UW athletic director Scott Woodward said in a statement. “This extension is well-deserved and we hope Coach Petersen is a Husky for a long time to come.”
