Huskies LB Drew Lewis dismissed for violating team rules

Huskies linebacker Drew Lewis, a redshirt freshman who attended Eastlake High School in Sammamish, has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules. UW coach Chris Petersen announced the dismissal on Tuesday via a one-sentence press release.

Lewis never appeared in a game for the Huskies, as he redshirted as a freshman last season. He played safety and running back at Eastlake, where he rushed for 809 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior and also recorded 37 tackles. Lewis committed to former UW coach Steve Sarkisian and decided to remain committed once Petersen and his new staff arrived, and wound up as the only linebacker in Petersen’s first recruiting class.

Lewis spent most of spring practice working with the second-team defense, and seemed most likely to compete for a job as a backup during fall camp.
