UW Huskies men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins in COVID protocol, will miss Oregon State game

Washington Huskies men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins is in COVID-19 protocol and will miss UW’s meeting with Oregon State, the program announced Thursday afternoon.

UW assistant Will Conroy will be the Huskies’ acting head coach for the game.

The Huskies (8-7, 3-2 Pac-12) begin a two-game road trip at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night against the Beavers (3-13, 1-5) in Corvallis, and enter the contest following last week’s sweep of California and Stanford in Seattle, and having won three of their past four Pac-12 contests.

UW also plays Oregon (11-6, 4-2) on this road trip, at 7 p.m. Sunday in Eugene. It is unclear if Hopkins will return for the meeting with the Ducks. The program then returns home for a two-game stretch against Colorado and Utah next week.

UW has had four games on its schedule impacted by COVID-19 protocols this season. The Huskies missed a three-game stretch in early December, when they were scheduled to play Arizona, UCLA and Gonzaga. They later rescheduled their conference opener against the Wildcats, dropping their first Pac-12 loss in Tucson on Jan. 3.

Their scheduled trip to Pullman to meet Washington State on Dec. 29 was also postponed due to COVID-19 protocols in WSU’s program.
