Duke fans ranked No. 1 as ‘most obnoxious’ in NCAA basketball, according to survey 

North Carolina is known for its intense college basketball rivalries and March Madness success, but a new report recognized one school for having the most unruly fans.

A survey conducted by NJ.Bet, an online casino and betting offers site, found that Duke had the worst-behaved fans among the top 20 schools.

The survey asked respondents about fan behaviors that annoy them while watching the tournament, such as annoying chants, heckling too much, drinking too much and starting fights.

The Blue Devils came in at No. 1 for “most obnoxious chants” and “loudest fan section.”

North Carolina, which missed the men’s tournament this year, ranked No. 4 on the worst-behaved fan list, with “complaining about the referees and using profanity,” among the reasons for their position, according to the survey.

The survey also found that UNC and Duke were tops for bad behavior on the court, coming in at No. 3 and No. 11, respectively, for number of personal fouls committed during March Madness games from 2016-2022. UNC committed 292 personal fouls and Duke recorded 226 during the six-year period.
