Parker’s big night, Kingma’s 3 let WWU men to OT win

Junior forward Jeffrey Parker scored a career-high 39 points and sophomore guard Brett Kingma hit a game-winning 3-pointer to lift the Western Washington University men’s basketball team to a 100-99 overtime Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory at the University of Alaska Thursday, Jan. 7.

The Vikings (9-5, 3-2 GNAC) snapped a three-game losing streak in Fairbanks.

Parker turned in the most points by a GNAC player this season and scored 10 points in overtime.

The Vikings were down 79-76 with 11 seconds remaining in regulation when Ricardo Maxwell hit a long 3-pointer to tie the game.

Alaska held a 5-point lead with 18 seconds remaining in overtime, but a 3-point play by Parker and the game-winning 3-pointer by Kingma with 4 seconds remaining gave the Vikings the overtime victory.
