Impero leads WWU men’s basketball to victory

Senior guard Kyle Impero scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to lead the Western Washington Vikings to a 82-67 victory over Grace Bible on Friday, Nov. 27, in a non-conference college basketball game at Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Vikings won their second consecutive game to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Impero led the Vikings scoring 28 points, one shy of his career-high 29 points set earlier this season vs. Upper Iowa. Impero was 6-for-9 from the field in the second half to lead WWU to the 15-point victory.

Also scoring in double-figures for Western was Mac Johnson with 14 points (seven rebounds), Brett Kingma with 12 points (all on first-half 3-pointers) and Jeffrey Parker with 11 points. Impero and Johnson led WWU with seven rebounds each.

The Vikings shot 50.0 percent from the field for the game (29 for 58), including 84.2 percent from the free throw line (16 for 19).

The Vikings led by as many as 10 points at 30-20 with 9:17 left in the half, and went into the break with a 38-33 lead over the Tigers. Kingma led all players with 12 first-half points, all coming on three-pointers (4-for-3 3-pt).

Impero’s 20-point second half barrage fueled Western’s surge that expanded the lead to as many as 19 points with under 5:00 remaining in the game. Parker scored 8 of his 11 points in the second half.

Grace Bible was led by 13 points from Jared Bradford (five assists) and 11 points from Austin Jackson.
