WWU women handle Quest in exhibition opener
Junior guard Taylor Peacocke and junior forward Kiana Gandy each scored 18 points to lead Western Washington University to a 89-48 victory over Quest University in a women’s basketball exhibition contest Sunday at Whatcom Pavilion.
Peacocke, a first-team preseason All-GNAC selection, shot 9 of 17 from the floor and totaled a team-high seven assists.
Gandy shot 50 percent from the field (6 for 12) and was 3 for 5 from 3-point range. Her back-to-back 3s early in the second half extended WWU’s commanding lead to 55-31 out of the break.
Led by Peacocke and Gandy, four Vikings reached double digits in scoring to open the exhibition season. Junior forward Rachel Albert and freshman forward Nikki Corbett each totaled a double-double with matching lines of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
