Jeffrey Marcum, who played on a national championship team at South Mountain Community College, has signed a scholarship offer to play men’s golf at Western Washington University beginning this fall. Making that announcement on Tuesday, June 16, was Vikings’ head coach Luke Bennett.
Marcum, a junior from Richland, helped South Mountain CC to the 2015 National Junior College Association of America national championship with a 74.0 scoring average. He recently tied for 20th at the 2015 Arizona Public Links Championship with rounds of 73, 73 and 74.
At Richland High School, Marcum competed all four years at the Class 4A state championship, placing third as a junior when he took medalist honors at six of 14 tournaments. In 2012, Marcum tied for second at the Washington Junior Golf Association state championship.
WWU is coming off its 17th straight appearance at a NCAA Division II regional.
